Global quantum geometric Langlands at irrational level
A claimed proof of quantum geometric Langlands duality on any smooth complex curve at every irrational level.
Geometric Langlands matches two very different ways of studying bundles of symmetry on a curve. Its quantum form adds a complex number c, the level, and swaps a group G with its Langlands dual. This paper claims the full matching at every level c that is not a fraction. The dual side uses the level −1/(rc), where r is 1, 2 or 3. Rational levels are not covered.
The explanation
Start with the rule that swaps the levels. Pick a complex number c that is not a fraction, such as c = √2. For the group SL₂ of 2 × 2 matrices with determinant 1, the dual level is −1/c. That is −1/√2, about −0.7071. Some groups have roots of two different lengths. Their lacing number r is 2 or 3; otherwise r = 1Source 1. The dual level is then −1/(rc). For r = 2 and c = √2, that gives −1/(2√2), about −0.3536. Doing the swap twice returns c, since −1/(r × (−1/(rc))) = c. Levels need not be real. For r = 1 the level c = i is sent to −1/i = i.
Why exclude fractions? Each level s gives a number q = e^(2πis) on the unit circle. A fraction such as s = 1/3 gives q = e^(2πi/3), and then q³ = 1. So rational levels give roots of unity, and an irrational level never does. The paper's key rank argument works away from roots of unity.
Now the setting. Take X a smooth closed complex curve, such as a sphere or the surface of a doughnut. A G-bundle on X is a family of copies of the group G glued over the curve. All such bundles form one space, Bun_G(X). A D-module on it is, roughly, a system of linear differential equations on that space. The level c twists these equations by a power of a natural line bundle. The Langlands dual group G^∨ comes from G by swapping roots and coroots, the basic directions of its symmetry.
The quantum geometric Langlands conjecture predicts that twisted D-modules for G at level c match those for G^∨ at −1/(rc). Kapustin and Witten's electric–magnetic duality explains the dual group and the reciprocal levelSource 2. An early form of the conjecture, credited to Drinfeld, appears in Stoyanovsky's 2006 paperSource 3. Gaitsgory developed the version in terms of local categories, localization and Whittaker coefficientsSource 4. Feigin and Frenkel matched W-algebras, algebras of symmetries in two-dimensional field theory, at inverse levelsSource 5. Campbell, Dhillon and Raskin proved the local equivalences at irrational levelSource 6. The recent proof of ordinary geometric Langlands supplies the spectral description of the tempered categorySource 7. Bogdanova built a quantum Langlands functor in the Betti setting, a topological variantSource 8.
This paper claims the equivalence for every connected simple group, every such curve and every irrational levelSource 9. It uses the actual global forms and all connected componentsSource 10. It gives the unramified de Rham equivalence in the irrational rangeSource 11. Unramified means no special behaviour is allowed at marked points.
The route goes through localization. Localization turns representations of loop algebras into twisted D-modules on the space of bundlesSource 12. The paper first compares the two sides on such localized objects. Two global Whittaker identities then give the inverses of the resulting functorSource 13. One obstacle is a deformation step for a global kernel. The paper controls it with a new weight argumentSource 14. Ranks of certain maps stay constant away from roots of unity. That gives the needed vanishing at every irrational levelSource 15.
How sure is this? There is no Lean scope note for this result, so no computer proof checker has tested it. The paper relies on the long recent proof of ordinary geometric Langlands and on many other inputs. No specialist review has been published.
What it doesn't show. This does not cover rational levels, ramified versions, or groups that are not simple.
