Abundance predicts that certain positive divisors come from maps. Adding an extra nef divisor forces a weaker, numerical version, already on an elliptic curve. These papers claim that numerical version for projective and Kähler cases. They also claim minimal models exist for generalized log canonical pairs. No computer has checked the proofs.

## At a glance

- **First step:** 2018 (Lazić and Peternell, the Generalised Abundance Conjecture)
- **Significance:** Major. If the proofs hold, they settle central conjectures of the minimal model program in characteristic zero.
- **Trust:** Claimed, not checked

## The explanation

Take a doughnut-shaped complex curve, an elliptic curve. A line bundle of degree 0 on it corresponds to a point of the curve. Call a point torsion if adding it to itself n times gives zero, for some n. Exactly n² points become zero when multiplied by n. That gives 4 for n = 2 and 9 for n = 3. Only countably many points are torsion, so most are not. A line bundle from a non-torsion point never has a section, in any power. Yet its degree on every curve is 0, so it is nef. It looks numerically like the trivial bundle, which has sections everywhere[1].

That example is why this family speaks of numerical semiampleness. A divisor, or line bundle, is semiample when some multiple has enough sections to define a map. It is numerically semiample when it has the same degrees as a semiample one. In the example, the line bundle is numerically semiample but not semiample. So any general statement must allow such a swap, even on a curve[2,3].

Abundance asks that the adjoint divisor K_X + B be semiample when it is nef. Here K_X is the canonical divisor and B a boundary. Lazić and Peternell asked about K_X + B + M, where M is any extra nef divisor[4]. Their generalized abundance conjecture predicts numerical semiampleness. They proved it for surfaces and some threefolds[5]. The hard case is a shape with trivial canonical class, where M alone must supply the positivity[6].

The second paper claims the Generalised Abundance Conjecture for projective klt pairs in characteristic zero[4]. Klt is a broad class of mild singular pairs. The proof leans on two companion OpenAI preprints: one claiming log abundance, the other claiming minimal models[7]. Neither has had a specialist review. Its own key step is about nef divisors that meet every curve through a general point positively. It shows such a divisor on a klt Calabi–Yau pair must be big, meaning it has many sections[8]. The gap between those two conditions was the obstacle.

The first paper claims a version on compact Kähler manifolds. These are smooth complex spaces with a compatible metric, but they may have no nonconstant meromorphic functions[9]. It claims the class of K_X + B + M equals that of a semiample line bundle, in Bott–Chern cohomology[10]. That allows a flat change of line bundle, as in the elliptic curve[11].

The other two papers concern minimal models. A minimal model is a simpler birational version of a shape whose canonical divisor is nef. The third paper claims these exist for projective generalized log canonical pairs in characteristic zero[12]. When the adjoint is not pseudo-effective, it claims a Mori fibre space instead[12]. It keeps the extra nef data fixed. It does not claim that every run of the program stops[13]. It also does not claim semiampleness or sections[14]. The fourth paper claims minimal models for smooth complex varieties of dimension at least three[15]. It needs canonical divisors of numerical dimension one, measured by section growth.

How sure is this? No Lean formalization is listed for any of the four papers. The proofs depend on each other and on other unreviewed OpenAI preprints. No specialist review has been published.

**What it doesn't show.** This does not make the original divisor K_X + B + M semiample, only one with the same degrees.

## Where it came from

This result comes from an unreleased OpenAI model, published in the openai/math release on 6 October 2026.

## Hype check

No Lean check is listed. The results rest on other unreviewed OpenAI preprints, and no specialist review is published.

## Words used

- **Semiample:** Having a multiple with enough sections to define a map with no base points.
- **Numerically semiample:** Having the same degree on every curve as some semiample divisor.
- **Nef:** Having nonnegative degree on every curve.
- **Adjoint divisor:** The canonical divisor plus a boundary, K_X + B, possibly plus an extra nef part M.
- **Klt pair:** A shape with a boundary whose singularities are mild in a precise sense.
- **Minimal model:** A simpler birational version of a shape whose canonical divisor is nef.
- **Mori fibre space:** A map whose fibres are positively curved, the alternative outcome when no minimal model exists.
- **Big:** Having enough sections that their number grows as fast as the dimension allows.
